La Palma volcano: testimonies that hurt

The children need us

Good afternoon we are here next to the museum, with Lourdes Lopez our president of the association of mothers and fathers of students of La Palma, who will kindly answer the questions of Geosolidarioslapalma good morning Lourdes thank you for your attention. We would like to ask you what is the situation the need the human need of the children that you represent through the association?

There are many different cases, many needs, parents have approached us, they have talked to us, they do not even have enough to buy clothes for the children or food, people who are ashamed to ask for help, each person is different, everyone does not want to signify their situation of poverty, they are people who are going through many needs.

Apart from the need of the situation, we would like to help them directly through the project, do you think we should do this project with this association?

Of course everything that can be helped that comes to our association, we will distribute it to the parents and students of school age.

In the human question, do you think that in order to help the children with their grief, the geologists can take them to the countryside to teach them a little geology, geography, to see the volcanic ashes, to learn how to orient themselves?

I think the idea is great, it will help the children a lot, especially for everything they are feeling now, nobody or almost nobody is taking care of them, they need psychological support for these minors and to attend to their needs and it is very important.

Do you suppose then that geology can help in this mourning, help to bring comfort?

We have to see the positive side of all this misfortune, after all this there is a future and there is a tomorrow that the children have to learn and move forward.

Thank you very much for your attention, Lourdes Lopez.

Testimony of Mayte

Hello I am Maite from the village of Todoque, on the 19th the Cumbre Vieja volcano exploded, on September 26th it took my house, the work of my parents, of my children, a whole life everything went on, it took the bananas, the plantations, the jobs of the people who worked with me a whole life, the future of my children, a whole life went away.

The jobs of the people who worked with me all my life, all the work of my parents, the future of my children, a whole life is gone, we are left with nothing, it took away our life, all our intimacy, no, I can't go on.

We lost our lives and with a broken heart and soul, our hearts are broken.

Testimony of María del Mar

Good morning I am Maria del Mar from Todoque, there I was in my house, burned on October 28, we had to leave on September 19, we ran away, fleeing on that date, we will never come back.

And the banana plantations?

No, I only had on my arable land, my house with a stable with animals, 1 horse, chickens, dogs, a vegetable garden. We have lost everything, we have left the animals in one place, in another and everything we had is scattered all over the place, and here we are waiting for help.
